The Bomb Squad: Beam Me Up
Link went dead. Re-upped by request.
No. Not that Bomb Squad.
A bunch of people from… America-land, a.k.a ‘Some far off cosmos’, led by one Lorenzo Heard. The crew of a spacecraft travelling intergalactic-wise with a payload of impossible music (sound familiar?) disembark in Howard Beach, NY, about the time of the race murders. It’s 1988. They’re in the wrong ‘hood. Earth’s not ready for these kind of aliens.
Beam me up. The people of earth are kind of… nuts.
“To sleep, perchance to dream of a day when funk is no longer considered an acquired taste” go the notes on the 12″. I ripped this from the vinyl about six years ago and it’s on AAC at 192, but it uses old school Star Trek samples as percussion sounds so you are not allowed to have a problem.
Slurp. Link in the comments.

I must say that I am quite shocked to see a review of my 12-inch here. Ironically, they have been popping up everywhere here in Wash, DC, where I live, and I don’t have copies anymore. We actually got some air play here in DC and some in England and Germany when the disc was released. Also ironically, the release of the vinyl led to the demise of Bomb Squad, which had been together since 1981. The fellas got REALLY big headed after it’s release and started challenging my authority. I had just sold my first script for television and did not need the aggrivation, so I told them to do it without me. The band broke up a month after I left. See, I booked the gigs, I wrote the songs, on some songs I played all of the instruments. I produced our studio sessions and I actually sang this particular song, which I didn’t do often. Still, I was told I wasn’t needed. I left, making a slight career from writing for television. I got a call about two months later from one of the guys, telling me they want me back, but not as band leader, but to book the gigs, book recording time, produce the recordings……all the things I was doing before, but without the authority. I gracefully declined and they actually got pissed with me. Hey, it was MY band. I started the band, wrote most of the songs and hired and fired the band members. But I wasn’t needed.
